Almost every spam or phishing email has a telltale sign or signs that something is not right. Learning how to spot these signs is vital in preventing attacks against the school.
Here is an example of a real phishing email:
The first red flag is "Head Jonathan Eades," as none of our users have their titles in their email. The technical reason for this is to evade the yellow warning banner from Google.
The second red flag is the email address. It is not Jonathan's kinkaid.org email, but rather a Gmail address. Anyone can sign up for a Gmail address, and anyone can say their name is Jonathan!
The third red flag is the misspelling, as well as the poor punctuation.
The fourth red flag asks you for something and instructing you not to verify the request with a call.
